Group Rides
Recommendations
Posting Rides
- This information relates to the local Yahoo! Group (INFO)
- ready yourself to start at the posted time
- honor the spirit of the pace you post, or politely excuse yourself from the pack
- otherwise, anyone posting a ride should feel no responsibilities for others beyond common courtesy and civility
Group Ride Participants
- know the roads or carry a detailed map/published route
- carry hydration
- carry nourishment
- carry tools, tubes, patches, inflation equipment
- skills to change a flat
- cell phone (so you might call a friend to look up FBG taxi phone number)
- emergency funds for hydration, nourishment, taxi
- carry ID and insurance information to minimize inconveniencing others should you have an accident
- know your limits; hills, hot climate, dearth of convenience stores may be a greater challenge than you face customarily
Ride Pace Guidelines
A-Pace
- Pace: Fast (>18mph)
- Dynamic: A loose confederation of individuals; expect pacelines, echelons, alliances, break-aways, sprints
B-Pace
- Pace: Earnest (15-18mph)
- Dynamic: More social than competitive; occasionally emphasizing individual efforts, especially on hills, with regrouping afterwards expected
- Riders should be self-sufficient but all should expect to ride, substantially, as a group
- Any riders dissatisfied with the group's pace strongly encouraged to politely excuse themselves and take the front or rear exit
C-Pace
- Pace: Easy (<15mph)
- Dynamic: Socializing emphasized; individual efforts at or off the front strongly discouraged; whereas those made at or off the back strongly encouraged and aided verbally and through drafting by other riders
- Expect less-experienced riders
